September 2024 Flower Show

The September Flower Show takes place at our monthly meeting held on September 16. Entry time is 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Judging begins at 7:30 p.m. sharp. Maximum of one entry per class per entrant. Listed below are the categories for the show.

SECTION A – CUT SPECIMENS

  1. Aster (perennial), 1-3 sprays
  2. Clematis, 1 stem
  3. Coleus, 3 stems of one cultivar
  4. Coleus, 3 cultivars, one stem each cultivar
  5. Dahlia, cactus, 1 bloom
  6. Dahlia, decorative, 1 bloom
  7. Dahlia, any other kind, 1 bloom
  8. Marigold, 3 blooms
  9. Petunia, 3 sprays
  10. Rose, hybrid tea, 1 bloom
  11. Rose, full blown, 1 bloom
  12. Rose, polyanthus,1 stem
  13. Rose, any kind not listed above, 1 stem
  14. Salvia, 3 spikes
  15. Sedum, large-headed, 1 head
  16. Sedum, any other, 1 stem
  17. Seed pod or head, ripened naturally on natural length of stem, 1 stem
  18. Zinnia, 1 bloom
  19. Any other annual, perennial, etc not listed, 1 stem
  20. Any other annual, perennial, etc not listed, 3 stems of the same kind
  21. Collection of native flowers and/or grasses, 3 or more kinds, must be named
  22. Collection of ornamental grasses, or grass-like plants, 3-5 cultivars, one stem each
  23. Collection of flowers, 3 or more kinds

SECTION B – HOUSE PLANTS

  1. Herb(s), in 1 pot, up to 3 kinds, must be named
  2. House plant, foliage, 1 pot
  3. House plant, flowering, 1 pot

SECTION C – FRUITS & VEGETABLES

  1. Mixed vegetables on an 8" max plate
  2. Herbs, up to 5 varieties, displayed in water, must be named
  3. Any fruit, 1 to 3 on an 8-inch max plate

SECTION D – DESIGN CATEGORIES

September Design Theme: "Land Acknowledgement"
  1. Orange - a design incorporating orange flowers
    a) Experienced exhibitors
    b) Novice exhibitors (A person who has not yet won a first-place ribbon in a design category at an OHA flower show.)
  2. Reconciliation - a parallel design
  3. Tkaronto - a wayside design
  4. Nunavut's 25th Anniversary - a design incorporating a rock
  5. Seeds of Change – a dried miniature design (maximum dimensions 12.7 cm)
